All of us at some point of time have heard the very popular statement ‘early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’. It sounds cliché, is not very applicable to our modern life style and varies from individual definitions of health, wealth and wise ness. However if healthy here means an ailment-minimum life then the implications of good habits, regular balanced diet and mental nirvana are clear winners any day.

That healthy diet and regular exercise are foundations of a healthy life is not news. What is news and confusing one at that are new research that give conflicting views on a healthy diet and an adequate exercise regime.

However certain things remain constant. Stick to this 6 must do’s:

  • Eat only when you are hungry and not by the clock or because food looks too good
  • Do not skip a meal as this thrusts the body into a famine mode
  • Have plenty of water, to quench that hunger pang in between meals
  • Your energy calories should come from vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products
  • Avoid refined flour and have as less of salt, sugar and oil as possible
  • Exercise to burn more calories than you have consumed
