What is "eye flu" ?

In rainy season the infection of eye flu is very common. Eye flu is a type of eye infection. The very most reason for eye flu or conjunctivitis is Adenoviruses. Except this there are some other viruses like herpes, simplex virus and varicella zoster virus which cause eye flu or conjunctivitis. In conjunctivitis our eyes get red or pink, it 'swell' also. Such type of diseases are caused by infection. Eye flu infection can spread very easily from one person to another. A person who is already suffering from conjunctivitis if you make a direct close eye contact than your eyes can be infected also. So be aware.

 How to prevent eye flu?

You can prevent yourself from eye flu by doing many things. Some are listed below. 

  • Wash your eyes and with soap and clean water.
  • Don't touch your eyes again and again.
  • Keep distance from that person who is suffering already from Eye flu infection.
  • Always cover your mouth and nose while sneezing.
  • Never share your handkerchief, cloth, make up kit, goggle, etc. with anyone.
  • Be aware about cleanliness.
  • Never touch your eyes with dirty hands.
  • During travelling use sunglasses to protect your eyes. 

How long does eye flu last? 

Many eye specialist says that conjunctivitis is a common problem during the rainy season. This infection is staying 3 to 7 days in human eyes, but many times it is taking more than 10 days to cure properly. 

 What are eye flu symptoms?

There are many symptoms of eye flu.

  • Eyes becomes red.
  • Eyes release water.
  • Swelling of eyelids.
  • Feeling uncomfortable while blinking eyes.
  • Feeling irritation in eyes.
  • Sensitiveness to light.
  • Thick, sticky discharges from eyes when you wake up after sleeping.
  • Discharge became dry and you hardly open your eyes.

What are eye flu treatment?

There are several ways to treat eye flu.

  • Make a habit of clean hand hygiene when you are suffering from eye flu in that situation you should wash your hands frequently. Never share your towel, hanky, eye drop or any other things to anyone.
  • Provide your eyes a warm or cold compresses. You can apply a clean and warm compresses to your eyes. By doing so it will reduce your eye swelling. 
  • Use  an eye drop on doctors suggestion. 
  • Female must avoid eye makeup. 
  • Don't use contact lenses. If you wear a contact lens regularly ,and you have conjunctivitis than start using sunglasses. Time to time clean your glasses which you use during conjunctivitis.
  • Never touch or rub your eyes. 
  • Whenever you are suffering from conjunctivitis, apply saliva to your eyes as soon as you wake up in the morning, this is a home remedy.

In most of the time eye flu is not so dangerous. It can be cured easily. But sometimes if you do not apply a proper care  during eye flu than it can be dangerous. Nowadays there are many eye drops available in the market so don't take any risk. It can be cured within a week automatically, but you will have to take care of its prevention.
